Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ’S

What is the Baltimore August Wilson Celebration?

Ten theater companies in Baltimore will undertake an unprecedented joint project with the 3-year Baltimore August Wilson Celebration, which will present the late, legendary playwright’s American Century Cycle of plays in another first:  his 10 iconic plays, each one representing a different decade of the 20th century, presented in the chronological order.

When is it?

The celebration began with Arena Players’ production of Gem of the Ocean, which ran April 5-April 28, 2024.   The celebration will span the next few years, going through all ten plays of the American Century Cycle.

Whom can I contact?

Email Kendrick Weingast, the Administrator for the August Wilson Celebration, at info@bmoreaugustwilson.org.

Will I have to purchase tickets for each show separately?  Can I purchase a subscription to all the productions?

As this celebration spans several years and several different theatre companies, you will need to order each ticket individually. This website will always have a link on the homepage to purchase tickets for the upcoming production.

I would like to audition for the Celebration.  How do I do that?

Each theatre will be responsible for its own auditions.  If you contact us at info@bmoreaugustwilson.org, we will forward your picture and resume and letter of interest to the appropriate casting director at the theatre

Will there be events outside of the theatre shows?

Yes! We hope to offer outside events, including discussions, talkbacks, and monologue competitions. Please return to this page periodically to see the newest updates on upcoming events.

Where is it?

Baltimore! The celebration will involve theatres all throughout Baltimore – large and small!

If I miss one (or more) shows in the cycle, will I understand the rest of the productions?

Yes. While the shows are linked – most taking place in the very same house – each play revolves around different characters and different plot lines. They are easily understood individually and stand alone.  The more productions you see, the richer your understanding of August Wilson’s vision will be.

Should I bring my kid?

While we would love to give an enthusiastic YES to exposing young people to the arts, you know your child better than we do! Please contact the theatre you wish to attend to hear about any warnings or advice they have regarding bringing young kids.

When and how do you announce coming shows?

Yes, well-behaved pets are welcome in our outdoor seating area. They must be kept on a leash and are not allowed on the chairs or tables. We provide water bowls upon request.

Can I donate to the festival?
