August Wilson, renowned as one of our greatest playwrights, captured the soul of urban and Black America in his ten-play “American Century Cycle.” Each play represents a decade, offering a vivid narrative of the African-American experience throughout the twentieth century. Despite its potential, staging all of Wilson’s plays in chronological order has never been realized—until now.

The Baltimore August Wilson Celebration unites nine Baltimore theatre companies in an unprecedented artistic collaboration. Launched in 2024, this ambitious project has produced three to four productions of a Wilson play each year, each presented by a different theatre company. Current participants include representatives from professional, community, and university theatres, reflecting the breadth and spirit of the Baltimore theatre community.

The Celebration has been a remarkable success, leading to record breaking and artistically praised productions for each partner theatre. Join us as we continue on this one-of-a-kind Celebration to honor August Wilson’s legacy and showcase the power of Baltimore’s thriving theatre scene.
